Captain’s Log. Diaper Date 2657. Daddy Chronicles: Exhaustion.
I don’t know how to express how tired I am. And, I’m not special, there are others equally as tired – Mrs. Captain for one.
I think I have it figured out though (probably not):
Life is a marathon of sprints.
You see, I ran was on the track team. Since I was a thrower, my events were usually done first. That meant that I got to watch the distance runners. They run at a pretty even pace throughout the race – an extra kick, every now and again to pass someone, but they don’t run with the speed of a sprinter – until the end.
Life isn’t like that. I feel as though it is a series of sprints. And we have mini finish lines, like Winter Break, where we cross and pause. Try to catch our breath.
But in reality the race is still going on.
And it’s not so much a competition, as it is a large treadmill of life events. And if you choose to rest for too long, you find yourself up and sprinting again trying to catch up- and finding yourself just as tired.
And maybe that’s my problem. Maybe I am doing this thing wrong. Maybe my strategy ain’t right. I remember the coaches telling the distance runners that if they have too much kick at the end they didn’t go hard enough during the race.
And that may be the conundrum. How not to feel cheated by life, or underachieving, yet making sure I still have a solid kick towards the “end” of my race.
I’m just spitballing here. Strategizing so to speak. I’m very happy and very blessed. And because of that I think it is worthwhile to reevaluate things from time to time.
But I’ve never been a runner. Okay, actually I ran Cross Country for two weeks, then quit and became the manager. My first Varsity letter. Anyways, my point is that I wasn’t a runner, so this might not be the best analogy. You’ll have to excuse me. It’s an early morning and I still a little to sleepy to get philosophical. Ha! And yet here I am.
Well, I’m gonna try to get some more shut eye and try not to think about running anymore. I think I am getting phantom shin splints.
That’s all for now…Captain out!
Aw, I feel you! This is crazy time of year. And yes, I believe it is all made up a sprints. Rest well when you can – and happy holidays!
