Don’t look back. Something might be gaining on you. – Satchel Paige
Captain’s Log. Diaper Date 2687. Daddy Chronicles: Looking Back.
Pictures are amazing. They have the ability to show us where we have been. What we have been. And how far we have come.
2,687 days into fatherhood and it still feels new. It still feels scary. It still feels wonderful. It still feels like a blessing. It still feels like a job I’m not qualified for.
I just looked at some “old” pictures, and so many feelings came rushing back. So many unfounded worries, small victories, laughs, tears, and just quiet joy.
I always loved the Satchel’s quote. It’s a good reminder to keep focused on the future. Don’t let the past drag you down. But sometimes it is equally as nice to let some of those old feelings simmer – just so you appreciate the experience. Just so you realize just how worth it it has all been. Just so you can remind yourself that it will be alright.
I’m not aiming to get stagnant, not am I trying to live in the past; however, these memories are ones that we built, and are still building, and I intend to take some time to enjoy them.
Forgive me for waxing nostalgic tonight, but the pictures made me do it. And don’t be surprised if I find myself doing it again.
Do you find yourself looking back from time to time? Enjoy it. It’s worth it.
That’s all for now…Captain out.
