My dad used to always sing a Jim Croce song to me, “Don’t Mess Around With Jim”. The chorus was my favorite-
You don’t tug on Superman’s cape. You don’t spit in the wind. You don’t pull the mask off that ol Lone Ranger, and you don’t mess around with Jim.
I would smile gleefully each time just because it mentioned Superman and the Lone Ranger (two of my favorites). Eventually, the chorus changes after the iconic Jim is defeated by Slim. It was a simple lesson about the fragility of fame and the drive of determination. I still listen to it often and think about the fun times in the car when my dad would sing it to me.
