I accepted a challenge this week to blog every stinking day. I needed that. I hit a rut recently. Bogged down by thoughts of depressing current events, I felt as though I lost my voice a bit.
I did have a chance to share my voice, in a big way, in a Buzzfeed piece entitled 16 Black Parents Share What They Hope All Children Can Learn From Ferguson. I was honored to be included in this piece along with some people I truly respect. I know a lot of people have a lot of different opinions about the case itself. I guess what I wanted to promote was a deeper dialogue about the challenges outside of the case.
Nevertheless writing is therapeutic. Writing makes me happy. Sometimes my writing makes other people happy – or at least just my mom and my wife.
At any rate, this first week has been a blast. So far I have written about my epiphany at gymnastics class , poop, a bad day with dark clouds, my favorite mixtape filled with Christmas songs, my trip to Monday Night Raw , and one of my FAVORITE true stories – meeting Santa on the Polar Express!
If you haven’t checked them out, I suggest that you do, but I’m biased because I wrote them. If you are a new parent having a bad day (or know one) then you should definitely check out the poop one.
I also would like to mention that I write a weekly education post called “Your Parent Teacher Conference” at LifeofDad.com. This week’s post is an interesting one because it deals with teacher gifts- a hot topic on my Facebook Feed right now.
I hope you have a fantastic week, and hope you keep coming back.
That’s all for now…Captain out.
I hope this week has inspired you and gotten the juices flowing.
It has indeed! Just gotta keep it going.
Captain I am new to your blog and I have to say I am enjoying your writing very much. Sometimes we need a challenge to get us out of our comfort zones, and when that happens, well it’s pretty awesome!
And i appreciate you coming onboard! I have enjoyes reading tour blog as well. A little positivity goes a long way!
