Disclosure: I have partnered with Life of Dad and STOUFFER’S® for this promotion. I have received compensation and product for my participation, but my opinions are my own.
One of my favorite wingmen of all time is Apollo Creed from the Rocky series. Originally, Apollo and Rocky were adversaries, but they soon become friends and Apollo becomes a mentor of sorts. In Rocky 3, there is a truly intense scene where Rocky is taking his training less than serious and tells Apollo he’ll hit it harder “tomorrow”. Apollo bellows at him “THERE IS NO TOMORROW!” That’s what a wingman does – he, or she, adds fuel to the fire and helps you to power through.
And this summer, fuel is something that I need. As a seasonal stay at home dad (teacher), our summers are filled with adventure. And this particular summer I am trying to infuse more workouts with the play – while not disrupting the play. I’m tired of waiting for “tomorrow” to workout. So, in addition to my kids pushing me on, I have discovered a new wingman.
Actually a whole new line of wingmen: The STOUFFER’S® Fit-Kitchen lineup.
There are six options in this line-up: Steak Fajita (in smoked red chile sauce with a mix of red & green peppers and seasoned brown rice), Cilantro Lime Chicken (white meat chicken with a black bean & corn mix, seasoned brown rice and a verde tomatillo sauce), Rotisserie Seasoned Turkey (with a mix of diced red skin sweet potatoes & green beans), and Bourbon Steak (with chipotle mashed sweet potatoes, seasoned broccoli & red peppers).
I have to admit that I am excited about being a part of this campaign. Being born and raised in the All-American City of Cleveland, Ohio – I am very familiar with the STOUFFER’S® brand, and the blue collar work ethic it represents.
The Bourbon Steak Fit-Kitchen meal was the one that I decided to give a try. I enjoyed the fact that the pieces of steak were hearty and delicious. The mashed sweet potatoes (yes! SWEET potatoes. different and tasty) accented both the steak and the seasoned broccoli and red peppers. The meal was ready in 6 minutes and devoured in almost the same amount of time. I think I was happiest about the portion of steak – they were good cuts and thick pieces, but still a healthy portion. This was not a dainty tasteless meal – it was full of flavor and much needed fuel.
What is interesting about STOUFFER’S® new line of frozen entrées is that each 14 ounce Fit-Kitchen is not only packed with delicious ingredients and modern flavors, but they also offer a perfect balance of taste, nutrition, and convenience. Each meal contains at least 25 grams of protein. It is convenient to have a powerhouse meal packed and ready at hand for those nights that I might eat alone, or things are too crazy to fully prepare a meal.
So what do I need the fuel for?
Apollo Creed helped Rocky remember how to regain the “Eye of the Tiger”. My wingman helped fuel me for a workout. As I mentioned, if I am going to catch a workout, it is usually going to be with my kids in tow. So on this day, I decided to hit the speed rope for a bit, and throw a little medicine ball work in for extra effort.
I never wanted to be a boxer, but I always enjoyed the “boxer workout”. I no longer have a heavy bag, but I do still have a speed rope and a weighted rope – AND who doesn’t like to shadow box? Fortunately, the veggies, complex carbs, and protein from my Fit-Kitchen meal left me not only satisfied, but also fueled for the journey. We even got a little roadwork in (slower than my younger days, but still consistent). In addition, we hit the zoo and blew my FitBit up with all the walking we did.
If you are looking for a convenient, delicious, and wholesome meal, pick out a meal from STOUFFER’S® Fit Kitchen lineup. And remember like Apollo said “THERE IS NO TOMORROW!”, so go ahead and grab that fuel and take on your own adventure.
