Captain’s Log. Diaper Date 2816. Daddy Chronicles: I’m Back.
It’s been a spell since I have had the opportunity to litter a computer screen with words. I’ve missed it. I’ve missed sleep, but alas, that is what happens at the end of the school year.
I think the best analogy that I can make is that the school year is like a water slide. It starts with a slip and you find yourself in a continual slide, a ride with twists and turns, and then, suddenly, there is a twist and you find yourself ejected, submerged, into a splash of water.
The last day of school is like that moment you go under water and everything else is muted by the water – sound, light, all your senses feel dulled.
The day after the last day of school? It’s like when you reemerge from the water, and your senses are overwhelmed with stimuli. And in that moment you are able to appreciate all the twists and turns, bumps and thrills of the ride. It’s not easy, but it’s worth it.
The beauty of it though is that now I am able to think about fun things to do with my kids. For the next several weeks, I have the honor and the privilege of being a stay at home dad.
And I get to write for you, dear readers.
So sound the horn, and let the adventures begin. #SummerAdventure15 has officially begun. Stay tuned for the details and the fun.
I’m back. And that’s it for now. Captain…out.
